Basic Introduction
School of Mechanical Engineering (SME) is one of the oldest and strongest schools of Jiangsu University. SME established two provincial key laboratories which are “Photon Manufacturing Science and Technology” and “Material Tribology”. In addition, SME has a key lab of China Machinery Industry Federation - “Laser Shock Processing Technology” and more than 20 other research centers. The discipline of Mechanical Engineering is preponderate discipline of Jiangsu Province and cultivating national first level key discipline. In 2017, the discipline of Mechanical Engineering ranked 20 in the fourth round of discipline evaluation held by the Ministry of Education, and ranked 25 in the 2017 "Best Disciplines Ranking in China".
Prof. REN’s research team currently has 5 professors, 8 associate professors and young teachers, more than 30 master and doctor students. The team has been devoted to the research of laser shock processing, laser preparation and characterization of carbon based nano-materials, laser cavitation strengthening, laser surface texture, ultrafast laser precision machining, etc. The team has obtained a series of important innovative achievements and published about 200 papers.
Introduction of Prof. REN
Xudong REN, PhD, professor, PhD students adviser, executive vice president of Graduate School of Jiangsu University, China. Dr. REN was a visiting scholar of the University of Manchester (2010) and City University of Hong Kong (2015). Dr. REN was awarded Youth Science and Technology Prize by Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society for his outstanding research contribution in 2017. Dr. REN got Outstanding Youth Scholar from Jiangsu Province in 2016. Dr. REN has been selected as cultivation candidate by “333 Talent Project” (2016) and “Six Talent Peaks” (2012) of Jiangsu Province. He won the 2nd Prize of Henry Fok Young Teacher Award (Ministry of Education, 2014) and Nomination Award of National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation (2013). Dr. REN was one of young and middle-aged leading researchers of ‘333 Project’ of Jiangsu Province (2013). He was once sponsored by Doctoral Collection Program (2010) established by Jiangsu Province.
Dr. REN has undertaken 14 national or provincial level projects. He is now taking 10 projects including National Science Foundation, Jiangsu Province Outstanding Youth Scholar, National Key Research and Development Project, etc. Dr. REN has published more than 80 SCI/EI papers and 3 books. He has also achieved more than 30 invention patents of China.
Dr. REN has won 2nd Prize of National Technology Invention Award, 2nd Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1st Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of PLA, 1st Prize of Jiangsu Science and Technology Progress Award, Excellent Patent Prize of China, Golden Prize of Jiangsu Province Patent, 2nd Prize of Technology Invention Award of Ministry of Education, and 2nd Prize of Technology Invention Award of Jiangsu Government.
Job responsibilities
➢ Perform research independently in one of the following fields: laser shock processing and shaping, laser precision processing, laser preparation and characterization of carbon based nano-materials, laser cavitation strengthening, etc.
➢ Apply for China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, Jiangsu Province Postdoctoral Science Foundation, and Research Fund for International Young Scientists from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)
➢ Publish at least 3 papers indexed by SCI
➢ Give assistance to cultivation of graduate students
Application requirements
➢ Having Mechanical Engineering or Materials Sciences background
➢ Those who having laser processing or advanced manufacturing research experience are more preferred
➢ Having a doctoral degree (or a doctoral candidate) with age below 35 and having good English communication skills

➢ Basic salary: RMB 250,000 Yuan/year before tax for those who get PhD. degree awarded by universities ranked in world Top 300 or RMB 150,000 Yuan/year before tax for those who get PhD. degree awarded by universities ranked out of world Top 300
➢ Provide whole set of social benefits and help schooling of kids. Post-doctoral apartment can be provided for full-time post-doctors by university, or a monthly RMB 700 Yuan rent allowance
